Managed delivery and commissioning of an electrical and controls upgrade on a remote freshwater hatchery in the North West Highlands — egg incubation systems, automated feeder systems, tank row upgrades and full lighting, power and control prewire, sequenced around live production and commissioned to fixed operational deadlines.
The project comprised the electrical installation and upgrade of two egg incubation systems, the automated feeder systems serving the tank hall, and containment, distribution and prewire upgrades across four tank hall rows. The scope covered general lighting and power throughout, comprehensive industrial cable tray containment and steel wire armour (SWA) installation and dressing, prewire of control wiring and the dissolved-oxygen monitoring system, and final commissioning and testing — all planned and sequenced by Brian Stevenson Ltd to meet production deadlines for the start of farm operations. The work was carried out in direct, ongoing technical partnership with the client’s engineering team and on-site management throughout, rather than to a fixed drawing package handed down in isolation.

Electrical installation across two egg incubation systems, including associated control and power connections.
Installation of feeder control boxes, isolators and a dedicated feeder PLC distribution board, with power and control prewire to each feeder unit across the tank hall.
Containment, distribution and power upgrades delivered to the first pair of tank hall rows, including feeder control tray and cabling.
Containment, earth bonding and distribution board installation across a further pair of tank hall rows.
Comprehensive industrial cable tray containment throughout the tank hall, with steel wire armoured cable installation and dressing to all rows and plant areas.
Full lighting and power installation across the tank hall, including high-level, walkway and emergency lighting circuits.
Prewire of control wiring and the dissolved-oxygen monitoring system, integrated into the wider plant control network.
Circuit-by-circuit testing and energisation, with the full installation commissioned and handed over in alignment with production deadlines ahead of the start of farm operations.
The upgrade was run as a three-way technical partnership rather than a standard design-and-install contract: the client’s engineering team, the client’s on-site management, and Brian Stevenson Ltd’s own site team worked jointly through load calculations and installation sequencing as each system and row was upgraded. That close, continuous technical dialogue — carried through to final commissioning and testing against a fixed production deadline — was what allowed the entire tank-hall installation to be delivered without rework or capacity surprises at energisation.
